We were delighted to join innovators, industry leaders, and healthcare experts at this year’s Innovation in MedTech and Diagnostics Conference, hosted by CPI at Prince Philip House, London. The two-day event brought together some of the most forward-thinking voices in the sector to explore how innovation, design, and sustainability can shape the future of healthcare.
Our Sustainability Lead, Rich Shaw, spoke on day one as part of the session “Reducing, Replacing, and Recycling in Drug Delivery,” chaired by Bal Johal with contributions from Gregor Anderson, Michael Hopkinson, and David Rakowski. Rich’s talk explored the clinical and market need for sustainability in drug delivery — showing how early design decisions can drive waste reduction, enable circularity, and create commercial advantage through more resilient and responsible healthcare systems.
The discussions throughout the session highlighted that sustainability is not only an environmental imperative but also a key driver of innovation and competitiveness.
Day two continued with insightful sessions on the future of diagnostics and healthcare innovation. Amit Agrawal, CSO of Danaher Corporation, shared fascinating research on novel sensing mechanisms — from gait analysis for dementia to voice detection for Parkinson’s and even hair samples for autism. He also outlined sustainable manufacturing as one of the four pillars of accelerating innovation and adoption.
Alex McLaughlin, Deputy Director of Innovation and Growth at The Office for Life Sciences, spoke about the UK’s ambition to become the best place to start, scale, and invest in healthcare innovation. His talk reinforced that achieving Net Zero goals will depend on continued investment in innovation and collaboration across the sector.
The conference also featured an inspiring session with Jonathan O’Halloran, CEO of QuantuMDx, who shared the company’s remarkable journey from a small start-up to a global business. His story — from early research beginnings to leading large-scale diagnostic innovation — resonated with many in the audience. We were honoured by his mention of pd-m’s contribution to user insight and human-centred design, which he highlighted as critical to enabling frictionless adoption of new technologies.
Across both days, the recurring themes were clear: sustainability, user-centred design, and responsible innovation are essential for the next generation of health technologies.
We’re proud to have contributed to these important discussions and to continue supporting innovation that makes healthcare both user-friendly and environmentally friendly.
Our thanks to CPI for hosting such a well-organised and engaging event. It was great to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new partners, and see so much enthusiasm for building a more sustainable and resilient healthcare system.
