Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Research and Innovation Day

“Fall in love with the problem, not the solution.”

These words resonated strongly with one of our CEO, Richard Hall as he listened to Tony Young’s keynote speech at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Research and Innovation Day. Tony also spoke about the recently released NHS England 10-year health plan, which highlights five key areas of reform: a new operating model, enhanced transparency of quality of care, workforce transformation, innovation and technology, and financial stability.

A standout moment from the day was the impressive example of translational research through the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme. So far, 1,314 clinicians have completed the programme, resulting in 686 innovations being developed, £1.1 billion in funding raised, and 592 start-ups created.

With over 450 delegates registered, the conference hall was full to the rafters. It’s incredible to see the journey the Innovation Pop Up has been on since its inception, led by Chris Herbert and David Brettle.

This was their biggest and most ambitious conference to date, bringing together more than 70 experts from healthcare, research, academia, and industry to showcase the latest insights and ground-breaking research and innovation.

Representing Pd-m, Richard Hall was proud to be part of the day, which featured four separate sessions and five parallel themes, providing a platform to showcase R&I activity across a broader footprint: Academic, Innovation, Pathology Research, Clinical Research, and Showcasing Great Work.

There were many valuable conversations about sustainable innovation, something we are deeply passionate about at Pd-m and how we help organisations, from start-ups to multinationals, achieve impact in this space.

It was also a great opportunity to catch up with familiar faces including Richard Evans, Michael Morgan-Curran, Graeme Howling, Nathan Berry, Varaidzo (Vee) Mapunde, Roxana Dumitrache, Christopher Hepworth, Mohammed Khan, Deb Hetherington, Will Bolton, and Matt Thomas.
