Sustainability in MedTech: Pd-m on the Cover of Med-Tech Insights
We’re proud to share that Pd-m’s sustainability lead, Rich Shaw, features on the front cover of the latest issue of Med-Tech Insights. His article explores how MedTech and HealthTech organisations can begin embedding sustainability and circular economy principles into their businesses, reflecting the growing recognition of sustainability as central to the sector’s future.
The feature highlights a clear trend: while awareness of net zero is increasing, many organisations are still searching for practical ways to take their first steps. Unlike regulation, funding, or supply chain pressures, sustainability is a relatively new challenge for many MedTech companies. Carbon literacy programmes have helped raise understanding, but translating this into actionable strategies often requires external support and collaboration. Encouragingly, the net zero journey is shared across the industry, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange rather than competition.
Rich’s perspective is informed by his transition from a consumer product background into MedTech over the past 18 months. Supported by Pd-m colleagues Richard Hall and Andrew Davidson, he has been able to apply product lifecycle thinking and sustainability strategy to an industry responsible for an estimated 4–5% of global emissions. His article underscores the importance of embedding sustainable design at the earliest stages of product development to create commercial advantage as well as environmental benefit.
The Med-Tech Insights issue also brings together contributions from leading organisations across the sector, covering topics such as digital twins, precision automation, and material innovation. Alongside these features, Pd-m’s inclusion on the cover demonstrates the increasing value placed on sustainability-led design and innovation in shaping the future of healthcare technology.
At Pd-m, we believe sustainability should not be treated as an add-on but as a driver of innovation, resilience, and cost efficiency. Our approach integrates circular economy thinking into design and development processes from the outset, helping businesses reduce impact while building competitive advantage.
