The knowledge, experience, passion and support I have received from the team at PD-M has changed everything. I know that I made the right choice when partnering with them — I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to navigate the trials and tribulations of launching a brand new product.

Case Study

Michael “Crin” Crinnion’s journey to Luma³ started from a deeply personal place. After losing his father to cancer, he discovered the value of daily “check-ins” and breathing exercises. As a teacher in a specialist school for mental wellbeing, he saw how these techniques could help young people avoid destructive coping mechanisms.

He imagined a screen-free, tactile, wireless device, intriguing enough that children would pick it up on their own, but simple enough to guide them through calming breathing techniques without any training. His early 3D-printed cube pulsed softly, “breathing” with the user.

The Challenge

Turning that into a manufacturable, affordable, regulation-ready product is where we came in. We saw a great idea but also a lot of room to optimise costs, materials, and assembly while reducing risk.

Designing And Prototyping

We started by building a high-quality prototype for his Kickstarter campaign (and helped produce the video), buying us time to refine the engineering. Every one of the seven main components was redesigned for easier, faster assembly and more efficient production. We sourced alternative materials, negotiated with new suppliers, and developed the electronics with a specialist PCB manufacturer.

The result

The final Luma³ stayed true to Michael’s vision but was now scalable, cost-effective, and built to last. Kickstarter success and private investment followed, and the product officially launched in Spring 2022, now helping people of all ages slow down, breathe, and regain calm.
