Client: Ring Automotive set out to redefine their portable jump starter range, aiming for a design that felt tougher, smarter, and more aligned with their evolving brand identity. They needed a partner who could balance engineering rigour with a strong design sensibility — someone who understood both user expectations and manufacturing realities. Having collaborated with us before, they returned for a fresh perspective and a more ambitious redesign.

Approach: We began by exploring the product’s core form factor, developing multiple concept directions that considered ergonomics, internal layouts, and brand coherence. Using VR as a decision-making tool allowed the Ring team to experience each design at full scale, helping us quickly define direction with clarity.

Challenges: Integrating complex internal components into a compact enclosure required careful engineering. Our solution needed to balance durability, portability, and brand coherence.

Deliverables: The enclosure was re-engineered for better internal organisation, and multiple design variations were developed within the boundaries of the brand identity. Comprehensive design for manufacture enabled us to deliver an optimised solution ready for full scale production.

Impact: Ring’s new jump starter strengthened brand identity and achieved early commercial success, achieving £1 million sales in first year of launch. The product won a What Car? 5-star rating and eared 5-star Amazon reviews.
